Just recently, developer James Whelton hacked the new iPod Nano 6G and was able to replace an app from its springboard with a blank space. By doing

this he has now opened a door for a possible jailbreak. Following the simple steps in this guide will teach you how to remove apps and insert blank space to an iPod Nano 6G SpringBoard running the current 1.0 firmware.

Steps to remove apps & add spaces to hack (possibly Jailbreak) iPod Nano:

Step 1:

Check “Enable disk use” in iTunes after plugging iPod Nano 6G.

Step 2:

Navigate to My Computer and then into the Sixth-gen iPod NanoEnable hidden folders and go into the iPod_Control, then into Device.

Step 3:

Take the backup of IconState.plist (save it to your desktop or a place where you can access it quickly) and then open the original file with Notepad (or any other text editor), you will notice the following:

Step 4:

As an example, just remove the SBPhotos part of the corresponding string and deleted the SBAlbums and SBGenres.

**(It is important to note that you aren’t actually deleting the apps, simply removing their visibility from the system).

Step 5:

Save this file.

Step 6:

SyncTug it. To do this hold down the minus (-) volume button and lock button at the same time and as soon as it begins to reboot (screen flashes black for a moment),  unplug the iPod cable from it.

Step 7:

Watch it boot and show that the Photos and Genres app are missing and a space before the Settings app.

It’s pretty simple and the same “SyncTug” technique can be used on the iPodSettings.xml file to change stuff like wallpaper. If you wanna return your device to its original state, just connect it to your computer and replace the IconState.plist with the backup one we made earlier and SyncTug. Something to note also is that if you attempt to press down on an icon and move it, the iPod Nano 6G will do a quick reset as it can’t understand why there is a blank space. The iPod will also sync fine in iTunes and be able to retain this hack.
