Apple

has released iOS 4.2 GM (Gold Master) to developers. Apple appears to be on track for its scheduled November release. Rumor has it that 100+ new features and innovations will be included with this update like AirPrint and AirPlay which were discovered in the earlier beta’s.  The update is currently available at developer.apple.com.

First Beta of iOS 4.2 was released back on September 15th, and Beta 2 was released on September 29th. The final Beta 3 was released last month on October 13th.

With this release, Apple will finally bring the iPad up-to-date with the iPhone and iPod Touch – calling iOS 4.2 to be a Unified OS . iOS 4.2 brings lots of improvements, but one change is causing some controversy – the screen lock rotation switch has now been repurposed to act as the mute button. Some users are not happy about the change, but it is in keeping with Apple’s theme to unify the iOS on all devices.
