Folks at 9to5Mac are reporting that Apple has been randomly emailing iTunes users coupons good for a free movie rental. No news on how widespread this promotion may become, it will certainly encourage iTunes users to try the rental service, a similar tactic has been noticed in the past from competitors such as Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Users have a choice of any of 8,500 films, and must commence watching the movie within 30 days of selecting it. As per the usual terms of iTunes movie rentals, once begun the film must be finished within 24 hours as it deletes itself automatically after that. The movie rental code included in the e-mails does not appear to distinguish between HD and SD movies.
