image Thomas Snyder (aka Dr. Sudoku) is a two-time World Sudoku Champion and five-time US Puzzle Champion, as well as the author of several books of puzzles. His puzzles are hand-crafted, with artistic themes, serving as a kind of “cure for the common sudoku.” Each week he posts a new puzzle on his blog, The Art of Puzzles. This week’s prescription is a 20×11 Fillomino puzzle to

mark the coming year.

For New Year’s Eve, I’ve written a 20 by 11 Fillomino with a “Countdown” theme. I promise, unlike last year where I wrote over a dozen 2010-themed puzzles, that I won’t write any more 20×11 or 2011 puzzles over the next several weeks. Happy puzzling!

Rules: Place numbers into the empty cells so that the grid is divided into regions of cells all containing the exact same number. Each region must contain exactly as many cells as the number that it contains. Not all regions are necessarily represented by the given numbers in the grid. Two regions of the same size cannot touch each other, either vertically or horizontally.
