High-Caliber Earbuds No. 1 With 2 Ear Bullets

We were worried about taking anything even resembling ammo through the TSA screening at the airport, but ear bullets in tow, we whizzed through without so much as an “Is

this your bag?” We didn’t know whether to feel relieved or really, really worried. We’re still undecided (about the screening process, not the headphones).

Munitio’s standard-issue titanium earbuds resemble 9mm bullets, and in addition to looking totally badass, the sound is killer too (this pun and all of the following are intended). Although still not wallet-friendly, these buds are worth their weight in … titanium.

Equipped with three sizes of silicone tips, you can pick the best fit for your ears, which helps with noise isolation. And the headphones’ natural noise-canceling also blocks out those pesky sounds actively battling to mess with your jams. Take that, crying baby in 24C.

The speaker drivers employ neodymium magnets — a combination of rare-earth elements resulting in one of the strongest types of permanent magnet — for an impressive range and quick recovery. Everything from the new Deadmau5 album to chart-topping Glee tunes sounds crisp and super bassy. Seriously, the bass is mind-blowing. There are times when I swear I would feel it in my brain.

As with most earbuds, these do have a few shortcomings: The Kevlar-reinforced cable is finicky. When it rubs on clothing, you can hear a scratching noise in the phones. And at high volumes, when the bass is melting your insides, the sound becomes a bit muddy.

Although there’s something a bit unnerving about sticking an object that looks like live ammo in your ears, these won’t blow your brains out; they’ll just deliver high-caliber sound.

WIRED Natural noise-canceling means your jams won’t be disrupted by nearby gunfire or others’ bad taste in music. Did we mention the bass is awesome?

TIRED Kevlar-reinforced cable does little to protect these headphones from attack — at low volumes we could hear the cord rubbing. Also, it gets all twisty.
