The investment

research firm ITG has been investigating the sales figures from Verizon Wireless and it has come up with a pretty interested find. A large majority of smartphones sold by Verizon Wireless are Android handests. Although it is a “new find”, it isn’t all that shocking. What is shocking are the other facts that the research firm found. In October 2009, BlackBerry’s accounted for 93% of Verizon Wireless’ smartphone sales and just over one year later, Android accounted for 80% of Verizon Wireless’ smartphone sales and BlackBerry’s share in at under 20%. The fact that Android went from not having a single handset in Verizon’s lineup in October of 2009 to sales domination just over a year later? The credit can go to Verizon’s fierce marketing schemes around the devices, consumer demand for more media centric devices with bigger screens, or RIM’s slow and measured approach with hardware.
