Darren Taylor is unlike any professor you’ve ever heard of, but that’s probably because he doesn’t have a Ph.D., sport a bow-tie or practice his craft in a classroom. No, this professor specializes in just one thing: shallow-water diving.

Better known as Professor Splash, Taylor has made his name as a stunt diver for a quarter-century. He’s set 12 Guinness-recognized world records for shallow-water diving, performing the feat from Japan to the United States to Germany. Taylor recently ventured to frigid Trondheim, Norway, to once again try to break his own world record and jump from 36 feet up into a pool with only 1 foot of water. It would be his 13th career world record.

“The real big trick with this dive,” Taylor told the BBC before the jump, “is to land flat and try and get as much water out of this pool as I can. I want to dissipate as much water for a cushion effect.”

Not sure how soft his landing might’ve felt, but Taylor (once again) pulled off the stunt without breaking his neck — or worse.

Taylor, of course, has done this before, shocking crowds in Tokyo and gawkers at trade shows.

Could Taylor go 40 feet? Fifty feet? He didn’t certainly seem content to rest on his 36-foot record breaker, and with a name like Professor Splash, you can bet he’ll only going higher.
