Apple has just seeded developers of iOS Developer programs with iOS 4.2 Gold Master version – Apple appears to be on track for its scheduled November release. Rumor has it that 100+ new features and innovations will be included with this update, check out some of the features listed below.  The update is currently available at developer.apple.com.

New Features:

New Multitasking Bar:

iPad users can now access Volume and Brightness controls directly from the multitasking bar. There is also a new AirPlay button for quick access. Check out the new-look multitasking bar in the image below.

Apple ID Login For MobileMe:

The MobileMe settings page now carries an interesting addition. Users now have the option to log into their MobileMe account using an Apple ID. The settings page also links directly to an Apple ID registration page. However, these login functions do not seem to be functional at the moment and so we are not sure how this feature will pan out in the public release.

AirPlay:

AirPlay is the most anticipated new feature coming to this iOS 4.2. AirPlay allows you to stream music, video and photos directly from your iOS device to an Apple TV. Some apps will be compatible with AirPlay as well, allowing you to stream content from an app on your iOS device to an Apple TV. Apps may one day become a replacement for traditional TV channels. This would make the Apple TV a real contender to replace regular cable service. Apple is sure to open an Apple TV App Store, “when the time is right” according to Steve Jobs.

You might remember that Apple had, quite surprisingly, removed this feature from the previous beta version of iOS 4.2.

AirPrint:

AirPrint is another welcome addition to the iOS. Now, people will finally be able to print mail, photos and even web pages directly to a Wi-Fi connected printer.

Stability:

Early reviewers of the latest release have noted that this version is much more stable in comparison to iOS 4.2 beta 3 that was released last month (as one would expect). However, some developers point out, issues such as those with the proximity sensor do not seem to have been resolved completely as yet.
