Here’s how to see where 4G is available:
- Download Sensorly from the Android Market
- Turn on 4G and launch the Sensorly “Map Viewer” app
- Select Yes, Active only, or No to participate in sharing data.We personally chose “Active only” in order to contribute without killing our data.
- Tap 4G and then tap “Sprint – USA”
- Look at the map and you should see certain areas covered in green. Green means that users in that area are reporting getting 4G.
Now you can navigate to that area and see what you can do with 4G.
It has been challenging for Sprint to get WiMAX in New York but the carrier managed to get it running before the competition that’ sure to come from AT&T and Verizon. It claims of being the “First 4G” network in New York, but that is debatable considering that T-Mobile’s HSPA+ offers 4G speeds as well.
Below are a few videos that show the behind-the-scenes process for getting New York 4G-ready:
What do you guys think of the new 4G speeds in these areas? For those of you who use Sprint, have you noticed a big difference? Let us know in the comments below!
