Released Sept. 14, Bill Hicks: The Essential Collection collates the Georgia-born comedy legend’s greatest stand-up material with rare performances and footage — even the cult short Ninja Bachelor Party — and new liner notes by admirers Henry Rollins and Eric Bogosian.

It’s a truth-to-power payback that is going widescreen. Hicks, a self-described “Chomsky with dick jokes,” recently received a bow-down on Late Show With David Letterman, and a Hicks biopic reportedly starring Russell Crowe and directed by Ron Howard is rumored to be in the works.

Both projects follow the insightful documentary American: The Bill Hicks Story (trailer below), which previewed in March at the South By Southwest film festival.
