Television is supposed to be easy — there’s a reason it’s called the “idiot box.” It used to be you sat down, grabbed your remote and a beverage, and slouched on the couch in an Al Bundy repose to enjoy hours of easy

entertainment.

Not anymore. TV’s new moniker should be the WTF? box. These days, between standard cable packages, Hulu, Netflix, illegal downloads, iTunes and the rest, figuring out how to watch what you want to watch has become a task riddled with anxiety.

But never fear — it’s Wired to the rescue. In the September issue, we give the boob tube the Wired treatment. Learn the best way to escape the cable company’s clutches, stream your favorite shows from the internet or ditch your TV altogether. Also in this issue, Community star and Talk Soup host Joel McHale gives you his personal advice as he guides you through the process of changing things up in “Wired’s Guide to Picking Your Perfect TV Setup.”

This week’s Storyboard podcast takes you behind the scenes of this helpful how-to as Wired senior editor Adam Rogers sits down with articles editor Rob Capps to discuss the TV package. Hear how Capps himself has ditched cable and started using an antenna. And, if you didn’t know already, find out why Community is a show worthy of a television set.
