Aston Martin had a simple goal when it set out to build the One-77: Build the best. Period.

The super exotic supercar — so named because just 77 will be built when production begins next year — is to be “the ultimate expression of design, engineering and craftsmanship” for the British automaker. As the car nears production, Aston can add another superlative: The ultimate expression of the normally aspirated engine.

The figures are in, and

they’re official: The 7.3-liter V12 under the bonnet produces 750 horsepower and 750 Newton meters (553 pound feet) of torque. And that, says Aston, makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine currently made. The One-77 already was on pace to be the fastest Aston ever, having hit 200.007 mph earlier this year during high-speed testing “at a top-secret proving ground in Southern Europe.”

“The One-77 is approaching a production reality and of course, there is considerable excitement in the project,” CEO Ulrich Bez said in a statement. “Now the next steps are all about details and refinement to complete the composition. I know the final car will demonstrate what the Aston Martin team is capable of.”

To see what it’s capable of, check out the video of the One-77 on the development track. Kinda weird to think the same company is planning to build a gussied-up Toyota iQ city car.
