Apple’s recent “Back to the Mac” event ended on a high note with an all-new updated MacBook Air has been announced. The new Air product line will, much like the iPad, have an “instant on” access, longer battery life, amazingstandby time, solid state storage (hard drives no more), along with the usual act of making everything lighter and thinner. It’ll be of unibody construction and in the specifications department, you get a C2D processor along with Nvidia GeForce 320M GPU, multitouch trackpad, FaceTime camera and a 1440×900 13.3″ LED backlit display, weighing in at only 2.9 pounds.

The most surprising thing though was the fact that the Air had a little brother as well: a 1366×768 11.6″ one to be more precise. The smaller version will have a slower C2D prcessor, smaller battery life, and weigh in a 2.3 pounds.

The New MacBook Air

Both will be available starting today. Pricing, processor and capacity are given below:

  • 11.6-inch, 1.4Ghz, 64GB for $999
  • 11.6-inch, 1.4Ghz, 128GB for $1199
  • 13.3-inch, 1.86Ghz, 128GB for $1299
  • 13.3-inch, 1.86Ghz, 256GB for $1599

At the unveiling, Jobs asked “What would happen if a Mac met an iPad?” and the answer to that question is probably an Apple netbook. That is what the new MacBook Air seems to be in terms of design but not so much in terms of pricing. What do you think of the new MacBook Air? Let us know in the comments below!
