May 24, 1935: Night Baseball Comes to Major Leagues
1935: The first night major league baseball game is played at Crosley Field in Cincinnati.
Crosley Field, built in the same era as Boston’s Fenway Park and Chicago’s Wrigley Field, was smaller than both. In fact, with a seating capacity around 30,000, it held the fewest fans in the majors. But in the mid-1930s the Cincinnati Reds were struggling to fill even those seats.
