Spanish video artist Raquel Meyers had been planning to bring her zippy, low-res graphics to New York City for the Blip Festival, an annual salute to 8-bit music and art.

However, a festival rep says Meyers, who has toured her work at festivals in Brazil, Estonia, China, Japan and elsewhere, has been denied entrance to the United States for reasons unknown.

Wired.com’s attempts to contact Meyers about the situation have gone unanswered, but a cryptic May 7 tweet by the artist might shed some light on the situation: “Bad quality spanish passports cost me so much problems,” she wrote.

While Meyers’ videos won’t be blowing minds (or causing seizures) during this weekend’s Blip Festival, they are available on her new DVD, Useless, Yet Crucial, which the 33-year-old animator/VJ produced with chiptune musicians including glomag, Bubblyfish and Goto80.

Meyers’ jaggedy videos pair perfectly with chiptune music’s swirling bleeps and bloops, although they could prove taxing for people susceptible to migraines.

The Blip Festival runs Thursday through Saturday in New York.
