Apple

released iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Apple TV 2G today. Along with the iOS 4.2 release, Apple also announced “Find My iPhone” service on iPhone 4, iPod touch 4, and iPad for free which was previously part of the $99/year MobileMe service. You can  follow the instructions listed below to set up “Find My iPhone” on your iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad or iPod Touch and on other unsupported iOS devices.

“Find My iPhone” service allows you to locate your missing iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on a map and have it display a message or play a sound for two minutes at full volume (even if your device is set to silent). You can even remotely lock the device, or wipe it to permanently delete all of your personal and confidential data. We also posted another article on how to retrieve data from your lost iDevice via iRecovery Stick.
