At the end of the day on Tuesday, the Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 reached a milestone of having 5,000 applications and games available for purchase. But not only did the team at Microsoft reach a milestone but they did it at a breakneck speed. It was just last month that the Windows Phone 7 had 3,000 applications available with about 15,000 developers making apps and games. With this number reportedly at 18,000 the growth of the store is expected to skyrocket and possibly pass Palm’s webOS App Catalog by the end of January. The biggest jumps in apps submissions came in November and December. The majority of apps in the Marketplace are coming in at only .99 cents and almost half that amount are free. There’s but a slight increase of apps at the $1.99 price tag but that hasn’t effected how the lower priced apps are doing, and doing well it seems. Games are totaling up to 23% of the total Marketplace with Tools coming in at 2nd place with a total of 15%. Do you think this rise of apps will continue at this pace or do you see it tapering off soon?
