If you are one of the many that held off on Windows Phone 7 when it came to the US then you made a good call. You can now use the device to its full potential by installing applications without going to the store. Recently, some developers created a handy tool called “chevronwp7” that jailbreaks and unlocks anyretail Windows Phone 7 device. It allows you to deploy any third party Windows Phone 7 application without requiring a Marketplace developer account.

Unlocking allows the sideloading of experimental application that would otherwise can’t be published to the Marketplace, such as those which access private or native APIs.

Developer Chris Walsh, along with Rafael Rivera and Long Zheng created the tool, saying that Windows Phone 7 can be unlocked with ChevronWP7 for application side-loading without having to pay $99 per year for a WP7 Marketplace account. Currently Microsoft only allows registered developers to unlock their device in order to sideload their apps for testing purposes. The utility is said to be completely safe and the unlocking can be reversed easily taking the handset back to its factory state.

If you are interested in unlocking your Windows Phone 7 device and giving it the ability to install third party applications.
