Verizon recently announced the scheduled launch of its 4G LTE wireless network which will be taking play this Sunday, December 5th. After the official word was announced, many Verizon customers (current and prospective) turned to the web to learn whether or not 4G service will be available in their area. Launch markets for Verizon 4G LTE will cover “38 defined territories,” like major cities including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco. 60 major airports across the US will also be covered in the initial roll out.

Verizon will be offering a $50 monthly 4G plan for 5 GBs of data,” according to the Wall Street Journal, a deal that beats the carriers’ current 3G plan and Sprint Nextel Corp.’s 4G plan by $10. Verizon is also said to be offering an $80 monthly plan, which comes with a 10 GB cap. “Verizon Wireless is able to offer the 5GB plan at a lower rate than its 3G plan because it costs less to deliver that wireless traffic on 4G,” Chief Technology Officer Tony Melone said.

Strangely, just as Verizon’s chiefs were busy announcing the dawn of their 4G on their network, the advertising folks at Verizon were busy covering up what’s being called an “honest blunder.” An ad for Verizon featuring the Droid X accidentally displays an iPhone interface. As usual, all those who theorize conspiracies will be interpreting this to mean all sorts of things but for now Verizon is saying it was a simple error.

What do you think of the 4G LTE wireless network announcement? Are you one of the many on the Verizon network who are excited for this new technology to finally be introduced? Let us know in the comments below!
