After filming ended for Monsters, his gripping sci-fi movie set in an alien-infested region of Mexico, director Gareth Edwards holed up for a year in post-production mode and produced all the CGI work himself.

Gareth Edwards used Adobe

Creative Suite 5 to create Monsters' alien.Edwards generated more than 1,000 iterations of the movie’s giant extraterrestrial, including the concept drawings above.

Finally, the British filmmaker — who worked as a visual effects designer before tackling Monsters, his first feature — fleshed out the movie’s insectoid creatures using software including Adobe’s Creative Suite 5.
