A billion dollars is considered a large amount of money by many and that is exactly the amount of money that Microsoft plans to splurge in advertisement for Windows Phone 7 and the Kinect. According to the folks over at TechCrunch, Microsoft will be spending $400 million on advertising for Windows Phone 7, and an additional half a billion dollars on marketing for the Kinect, according to All Things Digital.

According to the reports, the money will be spent on cross-promotions with various other brands such as Burge King and Kellogg’s cereal,  news media mainstays like a buyout of the front page of YouTube, as well as ad buys on hit shows like “Glee” and “Dancing with the Stars”. Microsoft is hoping that both will be a big success and bring in solid revenue for the company. We think that the Kinect might be a success as it incorporates something similar to the Wii but takes it to a whole new level without requiring the users to hold any remote controls. Windows Phone 7 on the other hand leaves us a bit skeptical due to the previous Windows mobile OS’s being very buggy and sluggish. Time will tell how successful they turn out to be though. So, as usual stay tuned for more news and info on the topic by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
