Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Lucy Knisley's "HPoster" for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first in her series of comics parodies of J.K. Rowling's books.

With the final Harry Potter film about to hit theaters, many fans are anticipating the end of a magical franchise. A small group of those fans will also say good-bye to another much-loved series: the Potter-themed comics of Lucy Knisley, which boil down J.K. Rowling’s books about the boy wizard into adorably rendered posters.

Knisley, a Chicago-based artist, illustrator and author, has made parody comics, which she calls “HPosters,” for each of the Harry Potter books . She just released the final two this week (like the movie franchise, Knisley broke Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows into two parts).

The idea for the posters grew out of a children’s comics workshop Knisley teaches. One of the first assignments for the class, she told Wired.com, involves asking the young students to tell one of their favorite stories.

“The HPosters began, in part, as a challenge to myself to do something similar, where I condense the very complicated and lengthy plot of a series of books that I love down to the bare visual narrative,” Knisley said in an e-mail to Wired.com. “I also thought they’d make my roommate laugh.”

The posters were meant to do more than just get laughs, though. They were also intended to attract attention to a project Knisley and her roommate Nora Renick-Rinehart were working on to take a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. (You can download the fruits of that labor and watch the pair prepare for their journey in the video below.)

Harry Potter isn’t the only book series Knisley has tackled. She also did a rather hilarious retelling of the Twilight story in, essentially, one panel (with a second page dedicated to her utter confusion about obsessing over the Stephenie Meyer saga).

Check out all of Knisley’s Harry Potter comics in the gallery above (warning: spoilers, of course). You can also download the high-res versions (perfect for printing!).
