Superman takes the Dark Knight on a Dickensian trip through his conscience in Batman: Noel, a new graphic novel inspired by A Christmas Carol.

Out in comics stores Wednesday and previewed above, Batman: Noel was written and impressively illustrated by Lee Bermejo. Suitably, the Man of Steel stands in for the better angels of humanity’s nature in the $23 hardcover, while Batman inhabits the role of embattled cynic in search of redemption.

Spoiler alert! Noel also has a happy ending.
