Vicious Mascot Brawl Breaks Out Between Rivals

College football is an inherently violent sport, but rarely does that brutality extend to the team’s mascots.

Recent events have shown that (typically) jovial mascots harbor an unhealthy obsession with cheerleaders, but now they seem to have channeled

that aggression toward their own kind, as Ohio State’s Brutus Buckeye (an “anthropomorphic buckeye nut“) and Ohio University’s Rufus (a “bobcat”) slugged it out during pregame introductions Saturday, just before Ohio State mauled its in-state rival, 43-7.

It’s unsure what sparked the fisticuffs, apart from pure, innate hatred of each other. Rufus, for whatever reason, felt the need to sucker-punch Brutus as he was leading the Ohio State team on the field. When that didn’t turn into the slobber-knocker he was looking for, Rufus turned and tackled Brutus from behind, even after he “lost his head” in the process.

Ohio University officials have already apologized for the incident, but you can be sure this isn’t the last battle in the Great Ohio Mascot War.
