If you’re an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch user, you probably know that Apple released the latest update to the operating system that powers those devices. iOS 4.2.1 is now flowing through the tubes, bringing all kinds of joy to your Apple products, including multitasking and folder to the iPad.

We have gotten a few reports from readers that, apparently some users are opening up the iPod app on the iPhone post-4.2.1 and discovering that their music is missing on some iDevices and causing hassles with HDMI on the Apple TV.

There’s no need to worry, as it’s not actually gone – it’s just that, for some reason, the iPod app can’t see it. There’s already a thread on Apple’s support forums about the problem. And that thread includes a fix that should work:

How To Fix iOS 4.2?s Disappearing iPod App Music Glitch:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes on the computer.
  2. The phone appears under devices in the left-hand column; click the arrow to the left of it so your media categories appear and select music.
  3. Play a song on the iPhone via iTunes on your computer.
  4. Sync the iPhone again
  5. Re-open the iPod app on the iPhone
  6. Wait a while while the iPod updates its library and that should do it.

As for the Apple TV HDMI hassles – seems the software patch has failed to fix a bad effect afflicting some HDMI TVs with inconsistent colors and screen flickering. This seemingly impacts the new model Apple TV. Here’s the discussion thread.
