Do you have a large iTunes library and are becoming curious as to how to get all your apps, games, movies, music, TV shows, and podcasts onto your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad? Don’t worry, we’re going to show you a trick to help cut down the size of your music and fit more of everything else below.
iTunes has a built in feature that automatically converts a higher bit rate song (256kbps being the current standard) to 128kbps for optimized transfer to your iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Audiophiles and music lovers might not want to risk the loss of quality but for most people, the difference isn’t even distinguishable and the storage savings are quite significant. If you are interested, follow the steps below.
Here’s what to do:
- Connect your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into iTunes
- Select “Convert Higher Bit Rate Songs to 128kbps AAC”
- Sync
- You are done!
Note:
If you have a large iTunes library it might take a long time to do the initial conversion. It only takes a while the first time you do it and when it is done, you will have much more space for videos, apps, and everything else.
Another Tip:
With iTunes 10.x if you select the “convert” option, the memory display bar will automatically adjust, so you can see how much space you’ll be saving before making any changes and you can decide if it is really worth it to you.

It is too bad they don’t offer this feature for video, but then again, it will probably be much more noticeable for video so it works out.
