Fans of Guillermo Del Toro, Blade II or high-quality movie posters in general, you have something new to salivate over.

Austin, Texas-based Mondo, the art collectible chop shop of Alamo Drafthouse, has dreamed up a visual pleasure-fest with its new Director’s Series of posters focusing on particular A-list moviemakers. The first artist/director collaboration features

Del Toro’s 2002 hit, which starred Wesley Snipes as the badass slayer who combats Reaper Vampires.

“Del Toro is a big deal for us,” said Justin Ishmael, Mondo’s creative director, in a phone interview with Wired.com. “Pan’s Labyrinth was gigantic for us. We love Hellboy. He is interesting on-screen and off. I just like him in every aspect.”

Turns out the acclaimed horror movie director is also a longtime fan of Mondo, and of Alamo Drafthouse’s commitment to furthering the proliferation of stuff geeks love, said Ishmael. The indie Austin theater chain has gained serious cred with its cult classic movie screenings and encyclopedic knowledge of all things comic books, sci-fi and horror.

Mondo’s limited-edition prints started half a decade ago as part of screenings during one of Alamo’s Rolling Roadshow tours, which present movies outdoors in locations related to the films being shown (a showing of Ferris Beuller’s Day Off got snazzy artwork in Chicago). Recently, Mondo’s posters for pop-culture staples like Star Wars, The Evil Dead and the Star Trek episode “The Trouble With Tribbles” have sold out in minutes.

The Blade II prints by Mike Sutfin, available in red and gold versions, are equally collectible — the gold variation is metallic ink printed on silver paper. These prints are the first of their kind for Alamo.

See how Suftin developed the final image in his work sketches, shown in the gallery above.

Mondo has more posters coming featuring beloved flicks from Del Toro’s filmography. Next up is Hellboy II (also pictured above) with Cronos, The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth coming soon. Eventually other collaborations with equally awesome directors (and Drafthouse fanboys) will be announced.

The Blade II posters go on sale at a random time Friday Thursday. Fewer than 300 will be available and they are virtually guaranteed to sell out fast. Follow @mondonews on Twitter for your best shot at buying one.
