Finally some good news for those of you who want to unlock your iPhones. MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has tweeted that they will be releasing Ultrasn0w for iOS 4.2 one or two days after it is released. However, the software unlocking solution will only be available for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users intitially.

He responds to a question from one of his followers on Twitter by saying:

simplysaru: @MuscleNerd thanks.. how long would the wait be for 4.2 any approximate time

MuscleNerd: @simplysaru if you’re on 3G or 3GS, just a day or 2 at most after 4.2 is public (just enough time to verify stuff)

So it seems like the iPhone Dev Team has figured out a way to unlock baseband 05.14.02 that was bundled with iOS 4.1 for the iPhone 3GS and 3G users. They still need to figure out a way to unlock baseband 02.10.04 that was bundled in iOS 4.1 for iPhone users. It also remains to be seen if iOS 4.2 comes with a baseband update, in which case users will have to use tools like PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze to upgrade to the pre-jailbroken iOS 4.2 and preserve the baseband from getting upgraded.

As usual, stay tuned for more iPhone jailbreak and unlocking tips and info by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
