The iPhone

Dev Team recently released PwnageTool and Redsn0w, which allowed users to update their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS’s baseband to 06.15.00 along with UltraSn0w 1.2 to unlock their phones a few days back. Some users have reported that they are experiencing significant loss of GPS signal after upgrading to baseband 06.15.00. The iPhone Dev Team also recently confirmed that although baseband 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it might require further tweaking to be fixed. The team published the following update to their blog:

Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00.

Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00.As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section.(Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don’t work).

If you are planning to unlock your iPhone then proceed with caution as you may end up losing GPS on your iPhone. If you have already successfully unlocked your iPhone using the combination of PwnageTool or Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w then let us know if you are experiencing any issues with the GPS on your iPhone in the comments section below. Rest assured though, the issue is being looked into as per a recent tweet from MuscleNerd:

The update for the GPS issue wasn’t the only thing the team has been talking about. MuscleNerd recently tweeted that an update to Redsn0w was in the works which will be skipping the extra work that the current version does. If you haven’t already updated, this might be a good reason to hold out in hopes for a more clean jailbreak process and one hopefully with more of the bugs ironed out.

As far as the iPhone 4 unlock, the iPhone Dev Team is currently working on it so please be patient!
