Stuck out on the golf course with a messed-up swing? Better make sure you bring Tiger Woods along.

Today, celebrity instructional app developer Shotzoom will formally unveil Tiger Woods: My Swing in the iOS App Store for just $10. For that, you get the ability to record your golf swing (up to 10 seconds of video) and enjoy instant analysis based on your angle and club choice.

Essentially, your movement will be compared to one of 24 swings by Tiger Woods, who will give you tips and techniques on everything from how you can keep your arms and posture straight to shortcomings in your short game.

Craig Prichard, president of Arizona-based Shotzoom, is in Orlando to launch the app at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge. As he told Wired.com earlier this week, this app’s development had the early backing of a very key player.

“Tiger had been using his iPhone to be able to capture swing analysis and get instant feedback while on the course,” Prichard said, “but he didn’t have an easy way to do the line drawings that he liked to do at home with his built-in system.”

Moreover, Woods could capture sweet high-def footage of his swing, but there was not much more he could with it.

“If there was an easy way to catalog those swings, he could compare them over time,” Prichard added. “So he went to Apple with the idea that, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be great for me to have this technology, but also be able to share this technology with other golfers and get it out there?’ Apple thought it was a great idea, and they suggested us as the ideal partner to work with him on the app.”

The result is a nifty $10 app that smartly integrates with users’ profiles on Golfshot.com, an online golf community that sports around 550,000 members.

“The iPhone is an incredibly advanced and powerful platform that people have sitting in their pocket, whether it’s for GPS or the high-definition camera,” said Prichard, whose team corralled Tiger for two full days of on-location shooting: one at his home in Florida and another at the Tiger Woods Learning Center. (Incidentally, Tiger’s cut of the app proceeds all goes directly into the Tiger Woods Foundation, so think of your app purchase as a quasi-charitable donation.)

The app’s UI is straightforward enough, offering one-button video capture as well as basic video-editing tools to trim your clips before uploading, a la iMovie. From there, you can see you swing side-by-side with Woods and make any real-time adjustments you need, before you mess your handicap any further.

Additionally, Woods has been given much control over the app’s content, including the ability to directly upload videos from his iPhone to the app servers, giving fans an unfiltered look at the PGA Tour.

“Tiger has told us he sees this as his app,” Prichard said. “This is a way that he can talk directly to fans, and he’s already shot a number of behind-the-scenes looks into his life and his golf game.”
