Rumors have been spreading about Apple introducing a subscription based music service since the day the iTunes music store was launched back in 2004. Apple has consistently denied that it is planning to follow that path, mainly because of the lack of interest from consumers. It seems like their stance is about to change now though. According to a New York post report, Apple is in talks with various music labels to introduce the subscription based music service.

According to the report, Eddy Cue, the boss of iTunes, has been in serious discussions with various music labels regarding the subscription plans that would be offered to consumers. One of their sources has partly confirmed that the public could be looking at a tiered pricing that should range between $10 to $15. Issues like the duration of the subscription and the amount of songs in each “package” are yet to be discussed.

It wasn’t very long ago that we heard rumors about Apple planning a cloud based music service after it bought Lala – a music streaming service. There were also indications that it would be announced at the WWDC back in June. Incidently, Apple, has also been blamed in the past for blocking the arrival of Spotify in the US market. Spotify is set to make its official entry in the US when the first Windows Phone 7 devices start shipping later this year.

If Apple does come out with a subscription service, do you think you would subscribe to it? How much are you willing to pay for it? Or does buying music per track sound more appealing?
