A report from DigiTimes this morning contains a few interesting notes from a talkative HTC executive, Jack Tong, vice president of HTC Asia, purportedly discussed the iPad’s impact on the smartphone market recently, which he states is not as dramatic as the tablet’s impact on PC sales. The HTC executive went on to say that the company will continue to focus on Android-based smartphones in 2011, as well as Windows Phone 7 devices. WP7 has been selling well so far, Tong noted, although Q1 2011 performance of the company’s smartphones will be seemingly be a much better indication of the platform’s potential. Tong finally said that HTC is currently evaluating the tablet PC market but would not mention any specific products. HTC is rumored to be prepping an Android based tablet that will be releasing some time in early 2011.
We aren’t quite sure how the Windows Phone 7 platform will sell in Q1 2011 but we do know that Microsoft has a “massive” update in the works according to the popular WP7 devs. That definitely will help boost sales but no one knows by how much. Time will definitely answer the question though. Stay tuned for more news and info on the topic by following us on Twitter and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
