iOS jailbreaks looking to get a bit of Android flare have a new tweak available via Cydia called AndroidLoader.

This new application tray/launcher was developed by Surenix (iDisplay and iRetina SB Setting themes) is now available via Cydia, this mod adds a slider to the home screen, allowing users to slide up in order to load apps, similar to Android’s default launcher. The application essentially works like a big folder: slide up to see the apps, slide it down to dismiss them. There are also basic audio controls but the application looks polished and scrolling works just the way you’d expect it to.

That said, there’s absolutely no way to search through your apps: it’s just a scrollable list, which can be a problem if you have a lot of apps installed. There’s also no clear way to sort the apps by folders inside the panel, which can upset a few users who rely on this feature.

When you tap any of the respective applications, it opens it right away. iPod Controls (Skip Back, Play, Skip Forward) are also included within the AndroidLoader menu. There are a few settings for AndroidLoader located in the Settings.app. The follow settings are all On/Off toggles: Hidden Icons Alphabetical Sorting Close on Launch Paging App Labels (Slow) And then at the bottom of the AndroidLoader settings tab, you can respring to make those changes happen. Here are some of the features that are expected to come soon with AndroidLoader: Improved tab Launch applications from anywhere (including inside applications) Activator command(s) Much more..

While talking with Surenix on IRC, he made this statement to me that I’m sure he’ll keep: The goal of AndroidLoader is to make a better alternative for the SpringBoard and current multitasking bar. Hopefully with new developments underway, it may even replace many of the SBSettings toggles. As mentioned above, new features are underway so keep posted on what is to come. Check out the video demo below: On the contrary, iOS already offers multiple home screens by default, which are easier to scroll through than a continuous list that can have hundreds of apps, and more importantly, users are already able to access everything on their phone effortlessly with Spotlight.

It has been submitted to Cydia and should be up soon. When it releases, it will be $2.99. No iPad support is available at this point. This mod requires you to jailbreak your phone first, since, just like any OS modifications, it’s not approved by Apple. You can follow our step by step guide to jailbreak your iDevice using Redsn0w, PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze.
